Broncos Open Season at Washington Quadrangular

What's Happening:
The Boise State gymnastics team begins the 2011 season on Sat., Jan. 15 when they head to Seattle, Wash., for a University of Washington quadrangular meet. The meet, which will be held at the Hec Edmunson Pavilion, includes the Broncos, No. 22-ranked Huskies, No. 39-ranked Illinois State and Seattle Pacific University. The meet is slated for an 8 p.m. (Mountain) start.

Preseason Rankings:
The Broncos entered the season ranked No. 18 in the nation, while Washington captured the No. 21 spot in the NACGC/W Division I Preseason Coaches' Poll. Illinois State finished in the 'others receiving votes' category. Since both UW (#22) and ISU (#39) have started their seasons, they have earned spots in the newest national rankings updated on Jan. 10.     

All-Time Series:
Boise State enters the weekend as the favorite against all three teams in the Washington quadrangular meet. Most recently Boise State faced UW, facing off at the 2010 NCAA Regional Championships in Salt Lake City. The Broncos own a 40-16 lead over the Huskies all-time. Boise State has faced Seattle Pacific 55 times in school history, winning 46 of the meetings. The Broncos have proven their dominance over the Falcons winning their last 28 meetings, including their most recent on Feb. 19, 2010. Boise State has only faced Illinois State once in school history, securing the win on Feb. 17, 2007.

Boise State "Broncos":
Boise State opens their 2011 campaign at Washington, kicking off a three-week road schedule. The Broncos entered the season ranked No. 18 in the preseason national rankings, the highest preseason ranking in school history. Boise State was also picked the favorite in the Western Athletic Conference, being voted the top team in the preseason WAC Coaches' Poll. The Broncos return 13 from the 2010 season, while also adding five talented freshmen to the mix.

Washington "Huskies":
The University of Washington opened their season at the first-ever PAC-10 Showcase hosted by UCLA. The Huskies finished the seven-team meet with a fifth-place finish and an overall team score of 193.675. UW is set to host their home opener on Jan. 15 and enter with a 2-4 record.

As a team, the Huskies were ranked No. 21 in the preseason coaches' poll and dropped one spot after their season-opening meet, the PAC-10 Showcase.

Illinois State "Redbirds":
Illinois State opened the season last weekend by hosting Midwest Independence Conference rival Southeast Missouri State. The Redbirds came out on top with a 191.500-19.275 victory giving ISU a 1-0 record. ISU will have one more competition completed by the time they see the Broncos, heading to Seattle Pacific for a Fri., Jan. 14 meet.  

Illinois State was just outside of the top-25 in the preseason coaches' poll and now sit at the No. 39 spot after week one of the 2011 NCAA Division I season.

Seattle Pacific "Falcons":
Seattle Pacific joins Boise State by beginning their season one week after the official national start to the season. Although the Falcons did not compete last weekend, they will enter the Washington quadrangular with a competition under their belts after hosting Illinois State on Fri., Jan. 14 at 8 p.m. (Mountain) before heading to the Washington quadrangular on Saturday.
