Record Meet Lifts Broncos Over Hawkeyes

BOISE, Idaho--The No. 17-ranked Boise State gymnastics team won every event on Friday night, beating Iowa 196.975-195.350. Boise State’s score of 196.975 marked their third-highest score in team history. Four different Broncos set season and career highs on the night.

The team posted a 49.500 on bars, tying their highest score on the apparatus since March 2001 against Washington. Junior Kelsey Morris won the event with a 9.95, which set her career record and tied the team record. Morris picked up her second win on bars this season and fourth of her career. Krystine Jacobsen, Kelsey Black and Ciera Perkins each recorded scores of 9.900.

Morris set career records in vault (9.85) and bars and tied her career record on beam (9.85). Her 39.500 all-around score is her career high and ranks third in Bronco history.

Starting off the night, Kelsey Black picked up her first event win of the season on vault. The senior scored a 9.90, which set her career record in the event. Amanda Otuafi and Perkins both scored a 9.875 and placed second.

Freshman Diana Mejia recorded her first event win of the season on beam. The rookie recorded a 9.875, setting her season record. Fellow freshman Paige Urquhart placed third on beam with a 9.825.

Capping the night, Perkins took the floor exercise title scoring a 9.90. Perkins is now tied for third in season floor wins (6). Morris placed second in the event with her 9.850. Iowa’s Sydney Hoerr placed third with a 9.825.

The Broncos are now 5-1 all time over the Hawkeyes and 12-3 in 2014.

Boise State will now gear up for Seattle Pacific on Saturday, March 8 at 6 p.m. in Taco Bell Arena. The meet will also feature Beauty and the Beast 2, where the Bronco wrestlers will square off in a rescheduled meet against Oregon State.
