Mann Leads Broncos in Win Over BYU

PROVO, Utah - The Boise State gymnastics team earned its second win of the season on Saturday evening (Jan. 26) topping BYU (4-3) on the road 194.700 to 194.425. The Broncos (2-0) were led by sophomore Caitlin Mann who combined for four event titles, including the all-around win. Teammates Brittany Potvin-Green and Amanda Otuafi shared a pair of Mann's titles on individual events.

"We are happy with our performance tonight," said co-head coach Tina Bird. "It was a great team effort."

Mann notched her first career win in the all-around after totaling a 38.625 score. En route to her all-around win, she notched ties for wins on vault, uneven bars and balance beam.

Her 9.850 performance on vault was a career-best, tying her with teammate Amanda Otuafi, while she shared the bars title with Potvin-Green with 9.850 scores. Mann shared the beam title with BYU's Raquel WIllman each scoring 9.750.

Bird continued, "Caitlin Mann had an awesome night with her beam routine being the highlight."

 Potvin-Green and Otuafi each earned a 9.850 on floor exercise, sharing the final event title of the night.

Mann and Otuafi led the Broncos on vault, while Kelsey Black tied for third (9.825), Potvin-Green tied for seventh (9.725), Kelsey Morris tied for ninth (9.70) and freshman Krystine Jacobsen earned an 11th-place finish (9.625).

Black earned the third-place spot on bars, behind Mann and Potvin-Green, after scoring a 9.825. Erin Wippermann, who won on bars last week, earned a 9.775, good for a tie for fifth-place. Jacobsen debuted as a Bronco on bars, earning a 9.750 to tie for eighth, while Morris placed 12th with an 8.950.

With Mann leading the team on beam, Alessandra Cinfio collected a third-place tie with a 9.725 and Morris a seventh-place finish with a 9.675. Otuafi tied for eigthth (9.650), while freshman Molly McFarland (9.60) and Potvin-Green (9.050) placed 11th and 12th, respectively.

Otuafi and Potvin-Green led on floor, while Black placed sixth (9.750), Morris was eighth (9.675), Mann was 11th (9.175) and Jacobsen was 12th (9.150).

Joining Mann in the all-around standings was Potvin-Green in third with a 38.475 and Morris in fourth with a 38.00 score.

Potvin-Green's tie for a win on floor marked her fifth-career floor win, while also marking Otuafi's second career win on the event. Potvin-Green's tie with Mann on bars marked each of the Broncos' second career wins on the event, while Otuafi earned her first career vault win. Mann also collected her first career wins on vault, beam and the all-around on Saturday night.

The Broncos earned scores of 48.950 on vault as a team, 49.050 on bars, 48.40 on beam and 48.30 on floor. The Cougars earned scores of 48.825 on vault, 48.40 on bars, 48.550 on beam and 48.650.

The two teams will face off in one week at the first Boise State Beauty and the Beast competition of the season. The meet will be held in conjunction with the wrestling match on Friday, Feb. 1 at 7:00 p.m. in Taco Bell Arena.
