SALT LAKE CITY--The Boise State gymnastics team traveled to Salt Lake City for their season opener at the No. 4 Utah Utes, with Southern Utah and UC Davis. The Broncos scored a 194.525 for third place, topping UC Davis (193.950) and falling to Utah (196.675) and Southern Utah (195.500).

The Broncos shined on vault in their season opener. The Blue and Orange scored a 49.225, the best vault score in a season opener in school history. Maddie Krentz, a junior from Cave Creek, Ariz., stuck her yurchenko full and marked her career-high 9.925 on the apparatus. The junior captain won the event, beating out Utah’s Kari Lee by .025 of a point. This is Krentz’s first-ever career event win.

Freshmen Lianne Josbacher and Ann Stockwell impressed in their Bronco debuts. Josbacher, the Shrewsbury, Mass., native notched a 9.875 for the second-highest Boise State vault score of the night. Stockwell also performed well, recording a consensus 9.80 on vault.

After holding second place at the halfway point, the Broncos transitioned to rotation three to compete on the uneven bars. Senior captain Kelsey Morris and junior Krystine Jacobsen each recorded a team-high 9.80 on the apparatus. Krentz, Diana Mejia and senior captain Ciera Perkins all recorded scores of 9.750, and the team notched a 48.950.

Boise State began the night on floor exercise, recording a 47.850. Krentz also led the Broncos on floor exercise, recording a 9.80. Morris had the second-highest score for the team with a 9.775.

The Broncos concluded the meet on balance beam and finished with a score of 48.500. Junior Marissa Wossner led the team with her 9.775, while Josbacher, Paige Urquhart and Jacobsen all recorded scores of 9.725.

Next up for Boise State gymnastics is Beauty and the Beast, where the gymnasts will square off against Southern Utah again and Bronco wrestling will host Arizona State on Friday, Jan. 23 at 7 p.m. in Taco Bell Arena. Tickets are available for presale at here.
