Harris Signs First Recruiting Class

BOISE, Idaho - Boise State University Head Women’s Golf Coach Nicole Harris announced the signing of three golfers to National Letters of Intent, Tuesday, Nov. 20.

 

All three golfers will be joining the Broncos as freshman in fall 2008.

 

Noelle Zavaleta, a senior from Wilson High School in Lakewood, Calif., is the 68th ranked golfer in the 2008 class. She qualified for the California Interscholastic Federation State Championship after shooting a 74 (+2) to finish ninth in the 128-person field. In August 2007, she won the Southern California PGA Junior Tour Desert Tournament of Champions (78-72). She also earned six top 10 finishes in SCPGA Junior Tour Events in 2007 and finished fifth at the AJGA Dodge/Bob Estes Abilene Junior.

 

Robyn Kim, a senior from Los Alamitos High School in Cypress, Calif., is the 81st ranked golfer in the 2008 class. She began playing golf competitively in the summer of 2007 and has continued to rack up the honors ever since. She posted five top 20 finishes at American Junior Golf Association events including finishing second at the AJGA Las Vegas Founders Junior Golf Championships. She has also finished 12th at the AJGA Core Reality Holdings Junior Championship, 14th at the AJGA Tee Up Junior Challenge, and 15th at the AJGA Hanmi Bank Junior Open.

 

Katie Somers, a senior at Mount Si High School in Issaquah, Wash., qualified for the Junior World Golf Championships in July 2007. She has also qualified for the BIG I Junior Classic National Finals, finished seventh at the Dropping Junior, seventh in the Washington Junior Golf State Championship, and 10th at the Washington State High School State Golf Championships as a sophomore.

 

"I am so excited about this recruiting class,” Harris said. “I feel very fortunate to sign such quality athletes to our program. The future of Boise State women's golf is headed in the right direction! All of these players bring in high-caliber national tournament experience which is what we need in order to compete for conference championships for years to come."

  

The Boise State women’s golf team will continue its season Feb. 25-26, at the Fresno State Lexus Classic in Fresno, Calif.
