Bird Sign Two to NLIs
Nov. 18, 2015

BOISE, Idaho – Boise State women’s golf head coach Nicole Bird announced the signings of Valentine Lacaze and Jalayne Martinez, Wednesday. The duo will join the Broncos for the 2016-17 season.

“I'm really looking forward to bringing this duo in because they will provide some much needed depth to fill the spots that will be vacated by Sam, Sammie and McKenzie,” Bird said. “Those three were in the top-20 nationally when they came in and these two have the experience to be that strong, too.”

Lacaze, from Toulouse, France, averaged 75.8 during her 2015 amateur season, climbing as high as 145 in the French National Amateur Rankings. She finished 17th at the 2015 French Amateur Championships (U-18), and won two French National Amateur events on the year.

She also captured regional titles at the U-17 championships in 2014 and at the U-13 championships in 2010.

“I am so excited to get Valentine to Boise and just show her what it means to be a Bronco and teach her our traditions,” Bird said. “She is so excited for this opportunity and it's been a fun recruiting experience. She is also going to teach me a lot and challenge me as a coach because she's my first left-handed player. I'm looking forward to that!”

Martinez, from Pasco, Wash., won The Dropping Junior Championship this past summer at BanBury Golf Course in Eagle, Idaho, and made to the finals of match play at the Pacific Northwest Golf Association Junior Girls’ Amateur Championship.

Martinez also captured medalist honors at the Northwest Junior Open, the WJGA Eastern Open and the Gold Mountain Junior Open.

“I knew from the first swing I watched that I wanted Jalayne as part of our team,” Bird said. “She has a quiet confidence about her and a tremendous ball-striking ability that just really stuck out to me. She was able to come to Boise for tournaments quite a few times this summer so I've watched her play a lot. I've also gotten to know her and her family really well and they just fit in with our program. They complete our Bronco Family.”
