Broncos concluded fall schedule with Lamkin Grip-Cal Poly Invitational.

 

ARROYO GRANDE, Calif. Boise State carded a 315 in the second and final round of the Lamkin Grip-Cal Poly Invitational Tuesday morning in Arroyo Grande, Calif. Iris Ocariza finished in three-way tie for fifth place to lead the Broncos with a final tally of 149. The Broncos shaved seven strokes off their day one total as they placed 13th overall out of 19 teams in the 36-hole tournament at Cypress Ridge Golf Course.

 

With higher winds and cooler temperatures Tuesday, only one team surpassed its first-round total and that was Boise State. The Broncos where seven strokes better than its first-round 322 aggregate, while Cal State Northridge equaled its first-round 311 total.

San Jose State won the tournament with a 598 total for 36 holes, 12 strokes better than runner-up Sacramento State. Boise State reported a two-round tally of 637 (+61) to finish 39 strokes behind the champion Spartans.

Two Broncos finished in the top 25 led by junior Iris Ocariza who placed tied for fifth overall with a two-round score of 149. After carding a 73 (+1) Monday in round one, the Honolulu, Hawaii native finished with a four-over-par 76 on Tuesday.


Senior Mandi Hedberg followed Ocariza up with a final tally of 153 to finish in a four-way tie for 15th. The Twin Falls, Idaho native cut three strokes off her round one total of 78 (+6) to card a three-over-par 75 Tuesday.

Completing Boise State’s scoring were senior Lindsey Shean, who improved nine strokes on Tuesday shooting a final-round score of five-over-par 77 for a final two-round 163 (+19) total to tie for 57th place. Katie Somers was fourth on the squad with a 175 (+31) total followed by Minhee Park who finished with a 178 (+34).

Individual winner was Mary Beth McKenna of Xavier with rounds of 69 and 74 for a 143 total, three strokes ahead of Jennifer Bermingham of UC Riverside and Cristina Corpus of San Jose State. Bermingham, who won this event in 2006 and 2007, shot a 75 Tuesday while Corpus also carded a 75.

With the Lamkin Grip Cal Poly Invitational, the Broncos have concluded the fall portion of their 2008-09 schedule.
