AUSTIN, Texas (11/2/2009) - Boise State University’s women’s golf team carded a 23-over 303 during the first round of the Challenge at Onion Creek in Austin, Texas, on Monday. The Broncos were in 19th place out of 21 teams, 38 strokes out of first place, when the second round was suspended due to darkness. The tournament will continue on Tuesday with the conclusion of the second round before the teams begin the final round.

The University of San Francisco is leading the tournament by 18 strokes firing a 15-under 265, second-place Texas State University tallied a 3-over 283.

On the individual side, Iris Ocariza shot the best score for Boise State in round one with a 4-over 74. The Honolulu, Hawaii, native is in a tie for 52nd. Sophomore Katie Somers competing in her first competition of the year turned in the second-best score for the Broncos with a 5-over 75.

Rounding out the Boise State roster on day one were Hayley Young firing a 6-over 76, followed by Lori Harper with a 78 (+8) and Michelle Gooding with a 13-over 83.

The tournament will continue Tuesday morning with a 7:00 a.m. (Mountain) shotgun start.
