AUSTIN, Texas (11/3/2009) - Boise State University’s women’s golf team carded a team season-low score of 907 (+67) at the Challenge at Onion Creek in Austin, Texas, over the last two days finishing in 21st place. Sophomore Katie Somers lead the Broncos with a three-round score of 12-over 222. This competition concludes the fall portion of the Boise State schedule.

The teams began the day by finishing the second round of the competition which was suspended on Monday because of darkness with three-to-four holes to play. Tuesday morning Boise State shaved eight strokes of its first round tally with a team season-best score of 295 (+15) during the second round. Unfortunately, the Broncos followed that with a Boise State tournament-high total of 309 (+29) in the final session this afternoon. Texas A&M, ranked 24th, won the two-day event with a 1-under 839 followed by San Francisco at 2-over 842, a distant third-place went to the host school Texas State with a 23-over 863.

On the individual side, Katie Somers finished the competition with a team-best 12-over 222 with scores of 75-72-75. It was the first tournament of the year for the sophomore from Issaquah, Wash., who finished the event tied for 64th. Texas A&M’s Julia Boland won the individual title with a 4-under 206.

Senior Iris Ocariza tallied the second-lowest score for the Broncos in Austin with a 15-over 225 after carding a 75 (+5) and 76 (+6) in today’s final rounds.

Rounding out the Boise State roster in Texas were freshman Hayley Young who shot a 18-over 228 (76-73-79), followed by freshman Lori Harper with a 23-over 233 (78-75-80) and sophomore Michelle Gooding with a 30-over 240 (83-78-79).

The Challenge at Onion Creek concludes the fall portion of the Broncos schedule. Next up, the Fresno State Lexus Classic on March 1-2.
