Broncos Ocariza Sits In Eighth to Lead the Broncos at Lamkin Grip Cal Poly Invitational

ARROYO GRANDE, Calif. In their first day of the Lamkin Grip Cal Poly Invitational, the Boise State women’s golf team pulled in a 14th place finish in the 19-team field at the Cypress Ridge Golf Course.

 

Firing a team score of 322, the Bronco’s were led by Iris Ocariza who finished the 72 par, 5,969-yard course in a tie for eighth place. Ocariza shot a round of 73 (+1) with 38 on the front nine and improving to 35 on the back.

 

Only five strokes behind, Mandi Hedberg shot a round of 78, to finish in a tie for 32nd. Hedberg shot a front half score of 38, but fell to 40 on the back nine.

 

Tied for 83rd, Katie Somers shot scores of 46 and 39 on the day to finish with an 85 (+13), while Lindsey Shean shot a 42 followed by a 44 on the back half for a score of 86 (+14) to tie for 91st. Minhee Park rounded out the Broncos in 103rd after firing a 91 (+19).

 

San Jose State leads the team competition with a score of 295 while Cal Poly sits in second with 299 and UC-Riverside in third at 300. Individual co-leaders after 18 holes are Mary Beth McKenna of Xavier and Bari Erais of Bradley, each with three-under-par 69s Monday. Both McKenna and Erais notched five birdies and a pair of bogeys.

Included in the team competition are, Boise State, SJSU, Cal Poly, UC-Riverside, Sacramento State, Bradley, Xavier, Santa Clara, Drake, Portland, CSU-Northridge, Northern Arizona, Gonzaga, Weber State, CSU-Bakersfield, Utah Valley, Idaho State and Southern Utah.

 

The final day of the Lamkin Grip Cal Poly Invitational will be played on Tues., Nov. 4 and will be the final competition for the Bronco women in their fall 2008 schedule.
