Boise State University’s women’s golf team will close the fall portion of its schedule this week when the Broncos compete in the 12th annual Lamkin Grip Cal Poly Invitational in Arroyo Grande, Calif. This 16-team tournament is being hosted by the Cal Poly Mustangs of the Big West Conference at Cypress Ridge Golf Course. Note: live stats will not be available for this competition.
► What’s Happened Recently
The Broncos are coming off a fifth-place finish at last week’s University of Memphis Invitational in Memphis, Tenn. Boise State shot a two-round score of 57-over 625 in a tournament that was hampered by severe weather and eventually shortened to two rounds. Boise State sophomore Hayley Young tied for third carding a total of 8-over 150 to lead the Broncos.
► Tournament Format for Lamkin Grip Cal Poly Invitational
This tournament will feature the typical five-person squads with the top-four scores per round counting towards the team tally. The competition format for this tournament calls for two rounds of stroke play, staged over two days. The teams will play 18 holes on Monday followed by the final round on Tuesday. Monday will start by shotgun start at 1:00 p.m. (Mountain), while Tuesday’s session will begin at 8:50 a.m. by split tee times from the first and 10th holes.
► The Host Course
Cypress Ridge Golf Course in Arroyo Grande, Calif., will serve as the host course for this event. The tournament will be staged on its competition course of 6,215 yards for a par-73.
► The Lamkin Grip Cal Poly Invitational Field
The field for this tournament will consist of 15 NCAA Division I programs and one division II. Boise State and Fresno State will represent the Western Athletic Conference at this competition. The other 14 schools include: the host school Cal Poly, as well as, Idaho State, UC Riverside, Cal State Bakersfield, Cal State San Marcos, Seattle, Northern Arizona, Sacramento State, Montana State, Long Beach State, Santa Clara, Weber State, Cal State Northridge and Southern Utah. In all there will be around 90 individuals competing for the team and individual titles at this tournament.
► Boise State’s Tournament Roster
Boise State will use primarily the same lineup as it did the last two times out with one exception, Jennifer Henningsson will get her first 54-hole tournament action of the fall. It is young roster featuring one junior, three sophomores and one freshman.
No. 1 Position: Hayley Young - The sophomore has led Boise State at all five competitions heading into this tournament. She is coming off a career-best third place finish in Memphis firing a 8-over 150. She is averaging a team and career-best 74.9 strokes per round (spr) this season.
No. 2 Position: Jenna Leurquin - Leurquin, the true-freshman from Brussels, Belgium, will open at the number two position. She tied for 30th in Memphis after carding a 17-over 159. Leurquin recorded a career-best 14-over 230 at the Price’s Give`Em Five in her last outing. On the year Leurquin is averaging 78.3 spr.
No. 3 Position: Jennifer Henningsson - The sophomore is playing in her third event of the fall. Last time out in Memphis she recorded a two-round total of 18-over 160 to tie for 32nd. Henningsson’s season average per round is 76.7.
No. 4 Position: Lori Harper - The sophomore from Manhattan Beach, Calif., tallied a 21-over 163 in Memphis. However, she shot a career-best 232 (+16) in Las Cruces, N.M., Oct. 11-13. Through 12 rounds played this fall she is averaging 79.4 spr.
No. 5 Position: Michelle Gooding - Gooding has had a solid fall recording career-highs three times. Last time out in Memphis she shot a 24-over 166. She fired a career-best 229 (+13) at the Price’s Give`Em Five in Las Cruces, Oct. 11-13. This season she is averaging 78.3 spr.
