Broncos in Second at Price's Invitational

LAS CRUCES, N.M. Through the first round of competition in the Price’s “Give’ Em Five” Intercollegiate Invitational, hosted by New Mexico State, the Boise State University women’s golf team sits in sole possession of second place, just three strokes off leader San Jose State.

The Broncos registered a 299 (+11) opening round for the team’s best finish this season.  Boise State had registered a 13-over par, 297 in the final round of the Bronco Fall Invitational but this was the team’s best finish in relationship to par.

All five members of the Broncos stayed very consistent in their scoring but freshman Iris Ocariza and sophomore Mandi Hedberg led the way for Boise State.

Hedberg registered a 74 (+2) in the opening round after shooting a 37 on both the front and back 9.  Her score of 2-over par placed Hedberg in a tie for eighth place.

Tying for eighth was teammate Ocariza, who rebounded from a 39 on the front nine to fire a below par 35 in the back nine and put herself in contention for the individual title.

As a team the Broncos placed four golfers in the top 20 at the tournament and all five golfers in the top 26.

Lindsey Huebert finished just one stroke back of her teammates as she posted a 3-over par, 75 in the tournament’s first round.  She ended the day tied for 11th with seven other individuals.

Lindsey Shean registered the other top 20 performance for Boise State when she shot a 76 (+4).  Shean stayed consistent throughout the course recording a 38 on the front and back nine, respectively.
