Gooding, Leurquin, Somers and Harper all have career outings for Boise State.

LAS CRUCES, N.M. (10/13/2010) - Boise State University’s women’s golf team recorded its second-best round of the fall season with a 10-over 298 on the final 18 holes of the Price’s Give`Em Five Collegiate Wednesday afternoon in Las Cruces, N.M. The Broncos finished the three-day 54-hole tournament with a season-low team score of 45-over 909 to place 12th overall. Hayley Young extended her run as Boise State’s top scorer to four-straight events finishing tied for 28th with a 9-over 225, while the other four Broncos turned in career-best performances.   

The team title went to the host school New Mexico State University who finished with a tally of 2-over 866 after shooting a 2-under 286 during today’s final round. The Aggies pulled away from Baylor University who was tied with NMSU entering the final session, the Lady Bears carded a final-round score of 3-over 291 giving them a tournament total of 7-over 871.

Boise State rallied from yesterday’s second round shaving 12 strokes off Tuesday’s score of 310 with a season second-best 298 (+10) this afternoon. Their team total of 909 (+45) is a season low for both score and par surpassing the Rose City Collegiate totals of 923 (+59).

On the individual side of the competition Baylor’s Lene Hafsten-Morch rallied past teammate Jaclyn Jansen and two others for the medalist honors with a three-round tally of 7-under 209, out distancing the trio in second-place by five strokes.

Hayley Young continues her top form this fall leading the Broncos for the four-straight tournament. Even though she slipped a little today, the sophomore was relatively consistent in Las Cruces, N.M., with scores of 74 (+2), 74 (+2) and today’s 77 (+3). She finished in a six-way tie for 28th overall out of 78 participants with a 9-over 225. 

Michelle Gooding finished the last 18 carding a 4-over 76 giving her a career-best tournament total of 13-over 229. This marked the third-consecutive competition that the redshirt-sophomore from Wilder, Idaho, has set a career best.

Jenna Leurquin and Katie Somers finished the Price’s Give`Em Five tied at 14-over 230. It was a career performance for both players setting new tournament-low marks for score and par. Somers rallied on the final day with the best round of her collegiate career at 2-under 70. Meanwhile, Leurquin shaved two strokes of Tuesday’s tally with a 5-over 77 on Wednesday.

Lori Harper also had a career outing for Boise State as she rounded out the tournament for the Broncos by tying her career-best score for a round with a 3-over 75 this afternoon. The sophomore finished the three-day competition with a career-low 16-over 232, new career marks for score and par.

Boise State has two more events on its schedule for this fall with the next competition coming Oct. 25-26 at the University of Memphis Fall Invitational.
