Broncos Take on College of Idaho in Dual Meet at River Bend...
► What’s Happening
Boise State University’s women’s golf team will take on the College of Idaho’s golf team in a dual meet this Wednesday at River Bend Golf Club in Wilder, Idaho, tee-off is set for 1:30 p.m. (Mountain). The event is hosted by the C of I will feature the entire teams for both schools. The dual will be the second competition for the Broncos this fall and the first of two duals this year, the second is versus Idaho State in the spring.
► What’s Happened Recently
The Broncos opened the new campaign last week at Gonzaga University’s Circling Raven Collegiate Invitational in Worley, Idaho, near Coeur d’Alene. Boise State shot a 933 (+69) to finished 13th out of 20 teams, 28 strokes out of first place Northern Arizona University and BYU. Sophomore Hayley Young led Boise State with a career-best 11-over-par 227 to tie for 14th place, followed by Michelle Gooding who carded a three-round career-low score of 20-over 236 to tie for 54th.
► The Dual’s Format
The dual will feature each program’s entire roster with the team score determined by a designated top-five players prior to the start and the rest of the squads competing as individuals. Boise State will field nine players while College of Idaho will have seven for this event. The top-four scores from the designated “five-women team” will count towards the team total. The competition format for this tournament calls for one rounds of stroke play staged on Wednesday beginning at 1:30 p.m. (Mountain) by tee times.
► The Host Course
River Bend Golf Club will serve as the host for this event. It will feature a competition course of 5,847 yards for a par-72. River Bend Golf Club is located in Wilder, Idaho, at 18981 Fish Road, (208) 482-7196.
► Boise State’s Tournament Roster
Boise State’s lineup for the dual will feature all nine members of the team, seven veterans and two newcomers. Five will compete for the team title while the other four will focus on the individual medalist honors.
No. 1 Position: Hayley Young - Playing the number one position will be sophomore Hayley Young. She led Boise State at the Circling Raven Collegiate Sept. 13-14 with a career-best 11-over 227 tying for 14th. The native of Hawaii is the top returning Bronco having played in eight tournaments last season finishing with a 78.8 strokes per round (spr) average, the best average among the returners.
No. 2 Position: Lori Harper - The second position for this event goes to Lori Harper. The sophomore from Manhattan Beach, Calif., played in the Circling Raven Collegiate Sept. 13-14 tallying a 23-over 239. She saw action in nine of the 10 tournaments Boise State participated in last year averaging 80.7 spr, third-best average returning on the team.
No. 3 Position: Michelle Gooding - The third slot on the roster will feature junior Michelle Gooding who fired a 20-over 236 at the Circling Raven Collegiate last time out. Entering the season she averaged 80.5 spr.
No. 4 Position: Jenna Leurquin - Leurquin is a true-freshman from Brussels, Belgium, will get the nod at the fourth roster position for the C of I dual. The freshman recorded a 25-over at the Circling Raven Collegiate in her first Bronco tournament last time out.
No. 5 Position: Katie Somers - The final team spot goes to junior Katie Somers competing in her first competition of the year. Last season Somers averaged 83.1 strokes per round in eight tournaments.
Competing as Individuals
No. 6 Position: Maria Santisteban - The native of Tampico, Mexico, is coming off a 29-over performance at the Circling Raven Collegiate last time out. The junior competed in six tournaments for Boise State prior to this season with a career 83.3 spr average.
No. 7 Position: Kodie Stanley - Stanley is a true-freshman out of Tulare, Calif. This will be her first ever collegiate competition.
No. 8 Position: Emma Dahlqvist - Dahlqvist will be playing in her first action of the season this Wednesday. As a freshman last year she averaged 85.7 strokes per round in three tournaments.
No. 9 Position: Jennifer Henningsson - The sophomore is competing in her first action of the 2010-11 campaign this Wednesday. The native of Sweden competed in seven tournaments last year averaging 81.3 strokes per round.
► About The Broncos
Boise State features a young team with no seniors on the roster. The experience on the squad comes from a mix of seven returning veterans, three juniors and four sophomores, who all competed for Boise State in at least one tournament last season. The juniors include Michelle Gooding, Maria Santisteban and Katie Somers; the sophomores are Emma Dahlqvist, Lori Harper, Jennifer Henningsson and Hayley Young. This core group is joined by two true-freshmen in Jenna Leurquin from Belgium, and Kodie Stanley from Fresno, Calif.
