Three Women's Golfers Among Top 25 After First Day of Northwest Dodge Dealers Inland Cup

PULLMAN, Wash. - The Boise State women’s golf team opened the 2008-08 season at the Northwest Dodge Dealers Inland Cup where three Broncos sit among the top-25 after the first two rounds of competition at the par-71, 6,142-yard Palouse Ridge Golf Club, Monday.

Making her Bronco debut was freshman Noelle Zavaleta who got off to a rough start firing a 81(+10) during the first round, but knocked nine strokes off her first round score to finish the second round with a 72 (+1). The Lakewood, Calif., native finished the day with a two-round total of 153 (+11) and currently sits in a tie for 16th. Also proving to be a force on the course was junior Iris Ocariza and senior Lindsey Shean as the pair each carded a two-round score of 156 (+14) to knot themselves in a tie for 21st.

As a team, Boise State fired a 319 (+35) during the first round and a 307 (+23) the second to give them a combined total of 626 (+58), which was good enough to finish the first day of competition sitting in a tie for seventh with Portland. The Broncos sit just nine strokes shy of breaking into the top-five.

Rounding out the field for the Broncos was junior Minhee Park, who shot a 161 (+19) on the first day. Park is currently tied for 39th, while teammate Katie Somers completed the first two rounds with a 174 (+32) and is currently 57th.

The third and final round of competition will begin with tee times starting at 7:30 a.m., Tuesday.
