Broncos to Open Season at Ptarmigan Ram Classic
Sept. 11, 2015

Boise, ID- The Boise State women’s golf team will open their 2015-16 season with a trip to Fort Collins, Colo. for the Ptarmigan Ram Classic Sept. 14-15, hosted by Colorado State.

The two day tournament begins Monday at 8:30 a.m. with 36 holes of continuous play. On Tuesday, the tournament will be 18 holes of play also starting at 8:30 a.m.

“I am excited to get back into competition and just watch the team play,” said head coach Nicole Bird. “I don't have any expectations going into this event, I just want to see where we are right now. We've spent a lot of time this fall working with our mental training coach and I want to see how that plays into our preparation and what happens on the course.”

The tournament will be played at the par-72, 6,318 yard Ptarmigan Country Club. Live scoring will be provided by www.birdiefire.com.

The field features Mountain West Conference foes Colorado State, Fresno State, San Jose State, Nevada and Wyoming, as well as California, UC Irvine, Kennesaw State, Long Beach State, Portland State, Texas Tech, Northern Colorado, Idaho, San Francisco, BYU and East Tennessee State.

“We are really focusing this year on competing and not comparing,” Bird said. “Yes, there will be a number of Mountain West schools at this event, but it's the beginning of the season. Our ranking, head-to-head competition and overall play have no baring on the MWC Championship other than to be seeded so it doesn't matter how we compare against them this early.”

Traveling for the Broncos will be:

1. Samantha Martin
2. Genevieve Ling
3. McKenzie Ford
4. Dana Clary
5. Sammie Pless

“The 5 who are traveling were the ones who traveled to most of the spring tournaments last year, so they are used to playing together,” Bird said. “That will help us because they know they can rely on one another.”

The Broncos placed 13th last season at the Ptarmigan Ram Classic. Then sophomore Genevieve Ling placed tied for ninth with a three round total of 218.
