LAS CRUCES, N.M. The Boise State University women’s golf team stands tied for third place through round one of the Western Athletic Conference Championships after matching the school-record for low round score at a conference championship by shooting a 306 (+18), Monday.
Senior Lindsey Huebert leads the Broncos after day one of competition with a 1-over, 73, to remain three strokes behind the leader and sit tied for second place. The 73 (+1) was the best score of Huebert’s career in conference championship play and just one stroke behind her career-low. Huebert is looking to improve upon her 14th place finish at last season WAC Championships as she started strong Monday, recording three birdies and four boogies.
Iris Ocariza is tied for 18th place through round one with a 5-over, 77, in her first career trip to the WAC Championships. Ocariza registered her only birdie on hole four and finished the front-nine 1-over.
Mandi Hedberg fired a 78 (+6) to tie for 20th place with teammate Nikki Olson.
The 78 (+6) shot by Hedberg is just one stroke off the 77 (+5) she shot in the first round of the 2006 WAC Championship before recording a 70 (-2) in round two to sit atop the leader board heading into the final day of competition. Monday in
Olson also recorded one birdie to five boogies in her first round at the WAC Championships for the 78 (+6). Olson’s birdie came on the par-5, 15th hole. Olson registered a 3-over, 39, on both the front and back-nine.
Katie Street is tied for 30th place with an 80 (+8) after registering only one par to eight boogies in the first round. Street birdied the par-5, hole 4 and was 2-over on the front-nine.
The WAC Championships will continue Tuesday, Apr. 24, at the New Mexico State University Golf Course with tee times beginning at 8:00 a.m. and running through 10:00 a.m.
