Broncos Fire Single Round Best During Second Round of WAC Championship

FRESNO, Calif. - With no where to go but up, the Boise State women’s golf team completed the second round of play at the 2008 Western Athletic Conference Women’s Golf Championship with a 305 (+17), which not only marked the lowest single round team score at a conference championship, but knocked 19 strokes off their first round score, Tuesday.

Continuing to lead the way for Boise State is Lindsey Shean, and after firing an opening round 79 (+7) combined with a second round 77 (+5), the junior garnered a combined total of 156 (+12) to knot her in a tie for 16th. Teammate Iris Ocariza also fired a 77 during the second round of competition, finishing the day in a tie for 22nd.

As a team, the Broncos fired a second round score of 305 (+17), giving them a combined total of 629 (+53), to put them in sixth place. Boise State currently sits just 14 strokes out of breaking the top three, and trail fifth place Idaho by nine strokes. Hawaii leads the tournament with a total of 603 (+27), while Nevada rounds out the field in the seventh position.

Despite carding an 84 (+11) in the opening round, Mandi Hedberg bounced back to fire a team-low 75 (+3) for a combined total of 159 (+15), knotting her in a tie for 24th. Also making her presence known on the course was Nikki Olson, who knocked seven shots off her first round score with a 76 (+4) in the second round, placing her in a tie with Hedberg at 24th. Sophomore Minhee Park rounds out the Bronco contingent as she sits in a tie for 33rd, just five shots shy of breaking the top 25.

The three-day tournament concludes on Wednesday with final-round tee times beginning at 7:30 a.m. Live scoring is available for the final round at www.golfstat.com, and results will be posted on www.broncosports.com.
