Three Broncos Among Top 25 After Round One of WAC Championship

FRESNO, Calif. - The Boise State women’s golf team escaped the frigid cold of Boise to head to the warm and sunny weather awaiting them at the 2008 Western Athletic Conference Women’s Golf Championship, where a trio of Broncos sit among the top 25 after the first round of competition, Monday.

After the first round of 18, the Broncos were led by junior Lindsey Shean who after carding a 43 (+7) on the front nine, posted an even 36 on the back to finish the day tied for 16th with score of 79 (+7). Resting just two shots behind Shean is the sophomore duo of Iris Ocariza and Minhee Park, who each fired an impressive 81 (+9) to complete the first round knotted in a tie for 24th.

As a team, the Broncos shot a 324 (+36) in the tournament's opening round, placing them in seventh and sit 12 shots shy of breaking into the top five. Leading the tournament after the first round is Hawaii, who tallied a 301 (+13).

Heading into the second round, senior Nikki Olson sits in a tie for 30th, while teammate Mandi Hedberg finished the first round knotted in a tie for 32nd to round of the Bronco contingent.

The second round of the WAC Women’s Golf Championship will continue Tuesday.
