Young in Fifth at MW Championships
LITCHFIELD PARK, Ariz. – Junior Hayley Young is tied for fifth place following Boise State’s debut round at the Mountain West Women’s Golf Championships, Friday.

Young’s 3-over-par 75 at the 6,208-yard Wigwam Resort Gold Course has her three strokes back of the leaders. She was 2-under through her final eight holes en route to posting the best round of the day for the Broncos.

Fellow junior Lori Harper notched a 5-over 77 and is currently tied for 12th, one stroke back of the top 10 headed into Saturday’s second round.

The Broncos are in sixth place as a team with a first-round score of 312 (+24), five strokes ahead of Wyoming and just two strokes back of a third-place tie with No. 48 New Mexico and Colorado State.

Boise State is also just one stroke back of No. 47 UNLV.

Redshirt junior Michelle Gooding and sophomore Jenna Leurquin each posted rounds of 80 (+8) on day one – each is tied for 20th – and senior Maria Santisteban rounded out the scoring with an 83 (+11).

Santisteban had led the tournament at 1-under through her first six holes.
