Ocariza Ties for 13th at Canes and Cardinal Classic?

MIAMI LAKES, Florida (4/7/09) Iris Ocariza fired a 5-over-par 77 in the final round of the Canes and Cardinal Classic at Miami Lakes, Fla., to tie for 13th overall.   The junior from Hawaii led Boise State to an 11th place finish at the two-day event hosted by the University of Miami at the Don Shula Golf Club. The Broncos struggled this morning carding a 324 (+36) in the final round to finish with a tournament score of 948 (+84). The San Jose State Spartans won the competition tallying an 887 (+23) to win the event by 23 strokes overall second place Washington State and Princeton who each recorded 910s (+46).

Ocariza finished the Classic carding scores of 77-74-77 for a 12-over-par 228 tournament result. The junior from Honolulu, Hawaii, finished the event in a three-way tie for 13th. The top-25 finish gives Ocariza a team-best fifth this season and her 14th overall.   

Noelle Zavaleta slipped a bit during the final round firing an 86 (+14) this morning. She still managed to follow Ocariza with a second-best overall Bronco performance during the competition with scores of 76-76-86 giving the freshman a grand total of 238 (+22) tying her for 39th place with three others.

Minhee Park maintained her position among the team finishing with a third-best result of 240 (+24) off scores of 83-75-82.

Rounding out the day for Boise State was senior Lindsey Shean who finished the competition with an 82 (+10) Tuesday morning giving her a total of 245 (+29). Meanwhile, freshman Katie Somers competing in her first tournament of the spring followed with a three-round score of 256 (+40).

The Canes & Cardinal Classic concludes the regular season schedule for the Broncos who will now have two weeks off to prepare for the Western Athletic Conference Championship in Reno, Nev., April 20-22 at the Wolf Run Golf Course.
