Broncos Caravan To Miami To Compete At Canes and Cardinal Classic

What’s Happening - The Boise State University women’s golf team will travel to Miami Lakes, Fla., April 7-8, to compete at the Canes and Cardinal Classic.

The 54-hole tournament will be held on the 72-par, 6,210 yard Don Shula Golf Resort. The first two rounds of the tournament will take place Monday, April 7, beginning with a shotgun start at 8:00 a.m. The third and final round of the tournament will take place Tuesday, April 7, beginning with a shotgun start at 8:00 a.m.

The Field - In addition to Boise State the 14-team field will include host Miami, College of Charleston, Florida International, Furman, Georgia State, Kansas State, Louisville, Middle Tennessee, Mississippi State, Missouri, Notre Dame, USF and Tulsa.

The Broncos The Boise State women’s golf team has participated in three tournaments during the spring season.

At the Kitahara Fresno State Invitational, Boise State finished in eighth place with a 609 (+33), took 13th (946, +82) at the Pinehurst Challenge and then placed17th at the Mountainview Collegiate Invitational with a 939 (+75).

In five fall tournaments the Broncos posted three top 10 finishes. The team’s best finish came at the Bronco Fall Invitational with it posted a 989 (+125) to earn fourth place. Boise State also finished sixth at the Giustina Memorial Classic with a 922 (+58) and seventh at the USF-Richmond Country Club Invitational with a 927 (+75).

The Players Iris Ocariza, Lindsey Shean, Nikki Olson, Minhee Park and Mandi Hedberg will be representing Boise State in the tournament.

Senior Nikki Olson collected two seventh place finishes this year, matching her career-best finish. She posted an 8-over 224 at the Giustina Memorial Classic and a 241 (+25) at the Bronco Fall Invitational. Olson also recorded a top 25 finish at the USF-Richmond Country Club Invitational when she finished 18th with a 17-over, 230. In last week’s competition at the Mountain View Collegiate Invite, Olson garnered yet another top 25 finish when she finished the 54-hole tournament with a 224 total to tie for 20th place. Olson is averaging 77.2 strokes per round this season with a low round of 73 (+1).

Mandi Hedberg earned top 25 finishes four of the six tournaments she has completed. Her best finish came at the Kitahara Fresno State Invitational when she tied for 13th with a 5-over 149. Her other top 25 finishes came at the Giustina Memorial Classic when she tied for 24th with a 15-over, 231, at the USF/Richmond Invitational 229 (+13) and at the Bronco Fall Invitational when she finished tied for 21st place with a 249 (+33). Hedberg is averaging 78.9 strokes per round this season with a low-round of 73 (+1).

Iris Ocariza has three top 25 finishes this season. Her best finish came at the USF-Richmond Country Club Invitational when she recorded a 231 (+18) to finish tied for 19th. She also finished in 20th place at the Giustina Memorial Classic (230, +14) and the Kitahara Fresno State Invitational (150, +6). Ocariza averaged 78.2 strokes per round this season with a low-round score of 74 (+3).

Minhee Park played in three fall tournaments and averaged 85.6 strokes per round. She also posted a season-low 80 (+9) in the opening round of the Kent Youel Classic.

Lindsey Shean played in all five fall tournaments averaging 79.1 strokes per round and posting two top 25 finishes. Olson notched back-to-back season-low rounds of 73 (+1) en route to her first top 25 finish of the season at the Heather Farr Invitational.
