Boise State Tied for Seventh Following Top Performance of Spring

CHANDLER, Ariz. (4/4/2011) - The Boise State University women’s golf team turned in its top performance of the spring semester Monday afternoon to find itself tied for seventh-place out of 23 teams at the Wyoming Cowgirl Classic. The Broncos recorded their top two rounds of the spring carding scores of 310 (+22) and 306 (+18) to finish day one of the tournament tied with the University of Wyoming at 40-over-par 616. Sophomore Hayley Young leads Boise State after 36 holes tallying a 3-over 147 to finish the day in a three-way tie for eighth-place.

The surprise leader of the team competition is Portland State University who recorded a 5-over 581 this afternoon. The Vikings have ran out to a commanding 17-stroke lead over second-place New Mexico State University who sits at 22-over 598.

On the individual side of the competition Portland State has two of the top three places after 36 holes. The Vikings’ Britney Yada leads by two strokes with a 3-under-par 141. She is followed by New Mexico State’s Suteera Chanachai and Portland State’s Kalyn Dodge who shot 1-under 143’s.

Young was one of two Broncos currently in the top-25 on the individual leaderboard. The Honolulu, Hawaii native, recorded her best two rounds of the spring tallying a 4-over 76 on the first 18 followed by a 1-under 71 during the second round. She is tied for eighth with Caitlin McCleary of Seattle and UTEP’s Teresa Nogues with 3-over 147’s.

Wilder, Idaho native, Michelle Gooding turned in the second-best Boise State score Monday afternoon to finish day one tied for 25th. The redshirt-sophomore fired a 3-over 75 in the first round, then a 5-over 77 in the second session for a two-round tally of 8-over 152.

Rounding out Monday for the Broncos were Lori Harper who shot 12-over 156 (78-78), Jenna Leurquin at 17-over 161 (81-80) and Katie Somers at 30-over 174 (88-86).

The final round of the Wyoming Cowgirl Classic will be staged Tuesday morning beginning at 8:30 a.m. (Mountain) in Chandler, Ariz.
