Martin Named MW Golfer of the Week
March 16, 2016

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Boise State senior Samantha Martin was named Mountain West Women’s Golfer of the Week, the league office announced Wednesday.

Martin won the BYU at Entrada Classic Tuesday, her school-record fourth-career tournament victory.

The league’s weekly award is the second of her career, as she earned the accolade after bringing home co-medalist honors at the Cowgirl Classic, April 7-8, 2014.

Martin entered Tuesday’s final round two strokes back of the leader, but fired the lowest score of the day – a 2-under 70 – to claim medalist honors. She finished with a three-round total of 214 (73-71-70, -2), her third-career sub-par performance in a three-round tournament. There are only five such performances in school history.

She was the only individual in the 81-woman Entrada field to finish under par, as she cruised to victory on the last day to win by four strokes.

Martin also had two tournament victories as a sophomore and one as a junior. She is the first women’s golfer in school history to win at least one tournament in three-consecutive seasons.

She is one of only four women in the Mountain West to win a tournament this season.
