Young Tied for 11th After Day One of Spring Opener

FRESNO, Calif. – Junior Hayley Young led the Boise State women’s golf team after the opening day of the Fresno State Lexus Classic Monday, the opening tournament of the spring for the Broncos.

Young posted rounds of 73 (+1) and 77 (+5) at the par-72, 6,072-yard Copper River Country Club, and will enter Tuesday’s final round just one stroke back of the top 10. She posted three top-25 finishes in four tournaments this past fall, including one top-10 effort.

Sophomore Jenna Leurquin was tied for the lead in the early stages of the opening round, after sitting at 2-under-par through seven holes. She ran into trouble on the back nine, but rebounded to shoot 74 (+2) in the second round. She is currently tied for 28th, just two strokes back of the top 25 with a 36-hole total of 154 (+10).

The Broncos are among a trio of teams tied for 10th place with scores of 623 (+47).

Rounding out the Bronco contingent were redshirt junior Michelle Gooding (159; +15), senior Maria Santisteban (161; +17) and junior Lori Harper (162; +18).

The Broncos will begin Tuesday’s final round with tee times starting at 9:56 a.m. (MT).
