Broncos Finish 13th at Pinehurst Challenge

PINEHURST, N.C. The Boise State University women’s golf team finished in 13th place in the 21-team field at the 2008 Pinehurst Challenge with a 946 (+82).

 

The Broncos completed the tournament Tuesday, Mar. 11, with a 26-over 314 on the Pinehurst #8 golf course in Pinehurst, N.C.

 

Sophomores Iris Ocariza and Minhee Park each registered a 237 (+21) to pace the Broncos and tie for 43rd place.

 

Ocariza opened the tournament with an 8-over 80 then recorded an 81 (+9) in the second before matching the low-round for Boise State at the tournament with a 76 (+4) to finish with a 237 (+21).

 

Park recorded a career-best round of 76 (+4) to open the Pinehurst Challenge then followed it up with an 83 (+11) and a 78 (+6) to close the tournament.

 

Lindsey Shean finished closely behind the sophomores as she tied for 49th place with a 238 (+22). Shean posted her personal-best round of the Pinehurst Challenge in the final with a 4-over 76.

 

Nikki Olson registered a 241 (76-81-84, +25) to finish tied for 61st place while Mandi Hedberg posted a 247 (85-76-86, +31) to finish tied for 90th place.

 

Boise State was consistent throughout the tournament as it registered a 314 (+26), a 318 (+30) and a 314 (+26). The Broncos held sole possession of fifth place after day one with a 314 (+26), but the field caught up.

 

The Boise State women’s golf team will continue its season Mar. 29-30 in Tucson, Ariz., with the Mountain View Collegiate.
