Four Broncos in Top 50 After First Round

KIAWAH ISLAND, S.C. – The Boise State women’s golf team is in 10th place at the end of the first round of the Palmetto Intercollegiate, with four members of the lineup in the top 50 of the 102 individual field.

The Broncos fired a team score of 297, +9 on the par-72, 5,972-yard Kiawah Island Golf Resort.

No. 48 Campbell University in in first with a first round score of 286, -2.

"This course is definitely scoreable when the wind is down like it was today," Boise State head coach Nicole Bird said. "The girls stayed really patient and gave themselves good chances for birdies all day. They made a lot of them, but there were still a bunch left out there that we hope to make tomorrow."

Senior Samantha Martin leads Boise State with a score of 73, +1 and will enter the second round on Monday in a tie for 23rd.

Martin is also tied for second in the field with five birdies.

Senior McKenzie Ford is tied for 32nd with a score of 74, +2.

Senior Sammie Pless (75, +3) and juniors Genevieve Ling (75, +3) and Dana Clary (76, +4) round out the scoring for the Broncos.

Clary is tied for first with Coastal Carolina’s Barbora Bakova with a 2-under on par-3 holes.

The second round of the three round tournament will begin Monday at 7 a.m. (MT) from the first and 10th tees. Live scoring will be provided by golfstat.com.
"The wind is supposed to pick up and there's a chance of rain so we will see what happens," Bird said. "We are just going to stay focused and take it one shot at a time."
