Martin, Young in Top 10 at Price's Invitational
LAS CRUCES, N.M. – Boise State freshman women’s golfer Samantha Martin is tied for eighth place following the opening round of the Price’s “Give ‘Em Five” Invitational Monday, while Bronco senior Hayley Young is tied for 10th.

Martin fired a career-low even-par 72 at the 6,258-yard New Mexico State University Golf Course. After registering three bogeys through her first five holes, Martin birdied three of her final 13 en route to the best single-round score of her young career.

She trails tournament-leader Yupaporn Kawinpakorn of Kansas by three strokes entering Tuesday’s second round.

Young finished day one with a 73 (+1), and is amongst a group of seven individuals tied for 10th place.

The Broncos are tied for seventh place with Nebraska following an opening-round team score of 301 (+13). The day-one score is two strokes back of tournament-host New Mexico State, and four strokes back of the top five.

Boise State leads Cincinnati and BYU by two strokes, while Idaho leads the event at 290 (+2).

Rounding out the scoring for the Broncos were senior Lori Harper and freshmen McKenzie Ford and Sammie Pless, who each shot 78 (+6). The trio is just three strokes back of the top 25 entering Tuesday’s second round.
