Broncos End Regular Season on High Note
April 3, 2018

Boise State freshman Lexi Perry notched her third-career top 25 to lead the women’s golf team at the Cowgirl Classic, Tuesday at the Ak-Chin Southern Dunes Golf Club. Perry finished in a tie for 15th to lead the Broncos for the third time this spring.

The Broncos finished in 11th, with a combined score of 897 (295-299-303, +33), just one stroke back of the top 10 in a 20-team field. The three-round score is the team’s lowest of the season.

“I’m really happy with the overall performance of everyone,” head coach Nicole Bird said. “We had four players shoot their personal bests this week, and we showed tremendous improvement in every area of our game . . . I’m glad we were able to see these things all come together before the conference championship and I hope it gives everyone the confidence they need to play three great rounds!”

Perry was phenomenal on the final day of competition, making two birdies to shoot even. Perry finished with a three-round score of 219 (74-73-72, +3), and tied for the lead in the 109-individual field with 40 pars.

“I’m really proud of Lexi, as she played really steady and consistent this week,” Bird said. “Her short game was really solid and her ball striking is improving a lot.”

Fellow freshman Alejandra Lobelo was second on the team in a tie for 56th, shooting 228 (71-76-81, +12) during the tournament.

Ivane Helias and Kinsley Bonfilio both finished in a tie for 65th at 230. Helias fired off rounds of 81-71-78 (+14), while Bonfilio ended the tournament with a 3-over 75 (73-82-75, +14).

Nicole Suppelsa (77-79-78 – 234 +18) rounded out the scoring for Boise State.

Boise State will be back in action at the Mountain West Championship, April 16-18.
