Broncos Drop to Consolation at Farms Invite

RANCHO SANTA FE, Calif. - The Boise State women's golf team fell to 22nd-ranked Arizona State in the first of its four matches at the San Diego State University Farms Invitational, a match-play tournament, Monday.

Monday's format included eight matches seeded by Golfstat rankings, with five individuals competing for each school. The eight winning teams advanced to the championship bracket, while the eight losing teams fell to the consolation bracket.

The Sun Devils captured four of the five matches, winning 4.5-0.5.

Junior Samantha Martin, playing at No. 1 for the Broncos, halved her match with Roberta Liti, playing at No. 1 for the Sun Devils.

The Broncos took three of the other four matches against one of the nation's top 25 teams to the final hole. Junior McKenzie Ford, playing at No. 5, junior Sammie Pless (No. 4) and sophomore Genevieve Ling (No. 2) each fell two-and-one.

Boise State is slated to square off against Michigan in the opening match of the consolation bracket Tuesday morning. The Broncos and Wolverines are scheduled to begin teeing off at 8:15 a.m. MT.
