Trio Finishes in Top 20 at Folino Invitational
INDUSTRY, Calif. – Boise State senior women’s golfer Hayley Young finished in sixth place at the Folino Invitational Tuesday, leading a trio of Broncos in the top 20 at the team’s first tournament of the spring season.

Young carded a three-round total of 226 (74-78-74, +13) at the par-71, 6,067-yard Babe Didrikson Zaharias Course at the Industry Hills Golf Club. The finish is her best of the season, and her three top-10 efforts in five 2012-13 tournaments are already tied for the eighth-most in school history.

With nine-career finishes in the top 10, Young trails Marie Beasley on the Broncos’ all-time list by just two (11; 1999-2003). Young has six-consecutive top-25 finishes dating back to last season, and has finished in the top 10 four times during the streak.

Freshman Sammie Pless posted one of the 10 lowest scores of the final round, moving into a tie for 12th place with a 54-hole total of 230 (78-78-74, +17). The finish is the best of her young career, and her second in the top 25.

Fellow freshman Samantha Martin improved her streak of consecutive top-25 finishes to four by tying for 17th with a three-round total of 232 (74-79-79, +19).

Following a final-round 304 (+20) – the team’s best score at the tournament – Boise State finished in fifth place with a team score of 927 (+75).

The Broncos’ three top-five finishes thus far this season are already more than the team has posted since 2004-05 (four).

Senior Lori Harper (83-81-77—241, +28) and freshman McKenzie Ford (81-81-85—247, +34) rounded out the scoring for the Broncos.

The Broncos will continue their spring season at the Bison Invitational at Paiute in Las Vegas, March 14-15.
