Martin, Young Tied for Second at Folino Invite

INDUSTRY, Calif. – The Boise State women’s golf team is in second place following Sunday’s first round at the Folino Invitational, led by a pair of Broncos tied for second individually.

Freshman Samantha Martin and senior Hayley Young each posted opening rounds of 74 (+3) at the par-71, 6,067-yard Babe Didrikson Zaharias Course at the Industry Hills Golf Club.

Each is just one stroke back of tournament leader Kristen Aiu of Cal State Fullerton (73, +2).

The Broncos are in second place with a team score of 307 (+23), just four strokes back of first-round leader Gonzaga.

"I'm really proud of the way the girls came out and played today, especially considering this was our first round of 18 this year," head coach Nicole Bird said. "They worked hard over break and they were ready."

Wyoming and Portland State, tied for third place, are five shots back of Boise State.

Freshman Sammie Pless is tied for 20th after day one, carding a round of 78 (+7). Fellow freshman McKenzie Ford (81, +10) and senior Lori Harper (83, +12) rounded out the scoring for the Broncos.

"There were a few nerves at the beginning today, so we know that's where we can improve," Bird said. "We are in a good spot, and ready for the next two rounds."
