BOISE, Idaho - The Boise State women's basketball team enters a short Christmas break on a sour note losing its second consecutive game, this time at home to Utah State by 12 points, 64-52, Thursday afternoon in Boise.  The Broncos came out flat and were never able to get on track as the normally solid shooting team struggled against the Aggies zone defense. Utah State scored 19 of its first 20 points off Boise State turnovers and never looked back as it led the entire contest. Lauren Lenhardt led the Broncos with 12 points followed by Keiahnna Engel with 10.  Boise State falls to 7-6 on the year while Utah State improved to 7-5.

The Broncos opened the game flat and a step slow turning the ball over six times on their first 12 possessions to find themselves down 12-5 seven minutes into the contest. Boise State did claw back to within three points at 13-10 by the 11:55 mark powered by eight Kati Isham points. Unfortunately, she did not score again in the game.

Utah State responded with an 18-6 run over the next nine and half minutes to take a period-high 15 point lead, 31-16, with 2:21 on the clock. The Aggies who were led by Devyn Christensen with 15 points in the half ended up taking a 14-point 35-21 advantage into the break.

The second half was not much better for the Broncos who scored seven points in the first 10 and half minutes of the period and saw their deficit increase to a game-high 23 points, 51-28, with 9:22 remaining. The closest Boise State would get after that was the 12-point margin at the end of the game losing 64-52.

Boise State finished the day shooting 35.2 percent (19-54) from the floor, 33.3 percent (6-18) from beyond the arc and 61.5 percent (8-13) from the free-throw line. Lenhardt led Boise State on five-of-nine shooting to finish with 12 points and six rebounds. Engel followed with 10 points, one board and two assists. Isham added eight points, one rebound and two assists, while Nicole Brady contributed seven points and team-high 11 rebounds. Kinzi Poteet had nine rebounds to go with four points.

Three Aggies hit double-figure points led by Maddy Plunkett and Devyn Christensen with 17 each. Plunkett added a team-high nine rebounds, while Ashlee Brown followed those two with 12 points and seven boards. Utah State finished the game shooting 40.7 percent (22-54) from the court, 37.5 percent (6-16) from the arc and 77.8 percent (14-18) from the charity stripe.

USU out rebounded the Broncos 38 to 34 and 11 to 10 in offensive boards which were good for an 11 to two edge in second chance points. Both teams turned the ball over a lot combining for 46 in the contest, 25 by Boise State and 21 by Utah State. Unfortunately for the Broncos, the Aggies converted their chances on Boise State giveaways into a commanding 32 to nine advantage in points off turnovers.

The Broncos will now take a few days off for Christmas to rest and refocus before returning to practice on Dec. 28. Boise State will close the nonconference portion of its schedule with a home game against Utah Valley at 2:30 p.m. on Dec. 31, then travel to New Mexico State on Jan. 7. The first Mountain West game will have New Mexico coming to town on Jan. 11.
