OREM, Utah (12/20/2010) - Kati Isham scored a career-high 28 points to lead Boise State to an 80-71 women’s basketball road victory at Utah Valley University Monday afternoon in Orem, Utah. Boise State led nearly the entire game and by as many as 17 points, 43-26, early in the second half. The Broncos shot a season-high 52 percent from the floor during the nine-point win.  

The game started slow and remained close early on as both teams struggled to get their shots to fall. The Broncos led the entire half with one exception, a 9-8 deficit five minutes into the game. Boise State rallied quickly to regain the lead with a Julia Marshall layup and never trailed again. It was not until the seven minute mark when Boise State started to force the issue as the Broncos stretched their lead out to 10 points three times before the half. The last was the 10-point 34-24 lead at the break.

Kati Isham led the Broncos in the opening 20 minutes with 12 points going four-of-seven from the floor and two-of-three from long distance. Boise State shot 41 percent (14-34) from the floor in the first half, 38 percent (3-8) from the arc and 75 percent (3-4) from the charity stripe.

Utah Valley shot 31 percent from the floor in the opening period, 18 percent (2-11) from 3-point range and 67 percent (4-6) from the free-throw line. Kali Roche led the Wolverines with six points.

Boise State opened the second period on a 7-0 run to sprint out to a 17-point 43-26 lead with 18 minutes to go. The Wolverines tried to rally but were unable to pull any closer than seven at 55-48 with 9:37 remaining. The Broncos maintained a double-digit lead for most of the final half as it fluctuated between 10 and 16 points. Isham iced the game for Boise State going eight-for-eight from the free-throw line in the final minute.

Kati Isham led Boise State with a career-high 28 points on eight of 13 shooting from the floor, four-of-six from the arc and a perfect eight-of-eight from the free-throw line. It was Isham’s fourth-straight game with 20-plus points and her fifth of the year. Janie Bos followed with 10 points and a team-high six rebounds, four assists and two blocks. Lauren Lenhardt matched Bos’ points with 10 of her own to go with one rebound and two assists. Diana Lee chipped in with eight points, two boards, a career-high six assists and three steals.

Boise State finished shooting a season-high 51.6 percent (32-62) from the floor, 40 percent (6-15) from the 3-point arc and matched their season-high from the free-throw line hitting 90.9 percent (10-11). The Broncos out scored the Wolverines 34 to 18 in the paint, 14 to 12 in points off turnovers and 21 to 12 in bench points. Boise State committed a season-low 12 turnovers, nine below its season average.

Sammie Jensen led Utah Valley with a double-double on 19 points and 14 boards, followed by Jenna Johnson with 16 points and Whitney Jenkins with 10. UVU shot 39.3 percent (24-61) from the floor, 33 percent (7-21) from the arc and 80 percent (16-20) from the charity stripe.  The Wolverines out rebounded the Broncos 36 to 34 for a 16 to six advantage in second chance points.

Boise State improves to 8-4 on the year with the nine-point victory, Utah Valley falls to 1-10. The Broncos will now take a short break for Christmas before returning to action on Dec. 29 when they host Saint Mary’s College out of the West Coast Conference. It will be a 6:00 p.m. tip-off in Taco Bell Arena as it is the first game of a double-header with the men.
