Oregon Holds Off Boise State 80-64 in Women's Basketball...
Bos leads Boise State with double-double, 19 points and 13 rebounds.
BOISE, Idaho (12/3/2010) - Boise State University’s women’s basketball team hung with the high-scoring University of Oregon Ducks for most of the game before fading late in a 80-64 defeat at Taco Bell Arena Friday night. Boise State trailed by five, 39-34, at half and lead early in the second period before Oregon rallied for the win. Janie Bos led Boise State with her second double-double of the season on 19 points and 13 rebounds, she did not miss a shot in the contest going eight-for-eight from the floor against the Ducks. Coach Gordy Presnell will have to wait for another chance to get his 500th career win as the Broncos came up short on the night.
Both teams raced up and down the court throughout the first 20 minutes of action as the Ducks stormed out to an 11-point lead (25-14) at the 8:25 mark. The Ducks shot the ball well early in the half as they pushed their high-tempo game at the Broncos.
However, down 11, Boise State came back to tie the score late in the period at 31 all and again at 33 with 1:27 to play in the first half. Oregon made a push in the final seconds of the half to eventually take a five-point 39-34 advantage into the halftime break.
Janie Bos led Boise State with a double-double in the first half on 15 points and 10 rebounds. Boise State shot 39 percent from the floor in the half and 25 percent (2-8) from beyond the arc.
Oregon was led by Kristi Fallin in the opening period with 10 points. The Ducks also shot 39 percent from the floor in the half and went 26 percent (4-15) from the 3-point arc. They shot 15 of their 38 shots from long range in the first 20 minutes.
Down five at the half, Boise State opened the second period hot rolling off a 10-2 run, powered by two Kati Isham 3-pointers, to take its first and only lead of the game at 44-41 just 2:15 into the final half.
Unfortunately, the Broncos cooled off over the next eight minutes as Oregon rallied with a 15-2 run to take a 55-46 lead with 9:52 on the clock. Boise State pulled to within seven, 59-52, with 7:02 left but could get no closer. The Ducks eventually stretched the lead to a game-high 16 points at the end with the final score of 80-64.
In the high-tempo and pressure packed game the Broncos turned the ball over a season-low 18 times, compared to 12 for the Ducks. Oregon still out scored Boise State 23 to 14 in points off turnovers. The Ducks also edged the Broncos in the paint 34 to 28. Rebounds went to Oregon by a 46 to 41 margin, but the Broncos out scored the Ducks 16 to 14 in second chance points.
Three Broncos scored in double figures during the game led by a season-high 19 points by Janie Bos to go with 13 rebounds, three assists and one block in 36 minutes. Isham followed with 17 points, two boards, two assists and one steal in 29 minutes. Lauren Lenhardt added 10 points, seven rebounds, one assist, one block and one steal in 26 minutes. Heather Pilcher recorded nine points, five rebounds, one assist and two steals.
Boise State shot a season-low 37.7 percent (23-61) from the floor, 28.6 percent (6-21) from the arc and 60 percent (12-20) from the free-throw line. Oregon countered with 39.4 percent (28-71) shooting from the court, 22.2 percent (6-27) from the 3-point line and 69.2 percent (18-26) from the charity line.
Oregon had four players in double figure points led by Amanda Johnson with 15 points to go with a team-high 12 rebounds, two assists, two blocks and three steals. Jasmin Holliday and Kristi Fallin added 12 each while Nia Jackson contributed 10.
Boise State falls to 5-3 with the loss to the Ducks, meanwhile, Oregon goes to 6-1 overall. Next up for the Broncos is a 3:00 p.m. (Mountain) game at Seattle University Sunday afternoon.
