BOISE, Idaho (12/3/07) - Boise State defeated Oral Roberts 73-64 in a game of runs Monday night at Taco Bell Arena. Jessica Thompson led four Broncos in double figure scoring with 17 points as the Broncos held off a pesky Golden Eagle squad. Four times Boise State took a double-digit lead only to watch Oral Roberts rally to cut it to five or less each time. Boise State had their best start of the season as they sprinted out to a 10-0 lead in the first three minutes of the game and never trailed through 40 minutes of action. Junior guard Jessica Thompson came out on fire hitting her first three shots of the game to score eight quick points and pace the Broncos to their 10-0 run to open the game. Unfortunately, Thompson picked up her second foul four minutes into the half and was forced to sit the remainder of the first period.

Boise State then responded with a 18-7 run to regain their double-digit lead and stretch it to 13 points, 30-17, with 3:46 to go in the period. After trading baskets and mini runs, the Broncos eventually settled for a nine-point, 37-28, halftime advantage.

Oral Roberts jumped out quick to start the second period pulling to within five points, 37-32, on two field goals in the first minute of action. That completed the second Golden Eagle rally that cut Boise State’s 13-point lead at the 3:46 mark of the first half to five one minute into the second period.

Up five, Boise State slowly pulled away for the third time with a 19-8 run to give the Broncos a 16-point lead with 11:35 to play. That run was highlighted by three consecutive field goals made by junior Jenna Galassi as Boise State claimed their largest lead of the night.

Tasha Harris then hit a key three-pointer to give the Broncos an eight point lead, 61-53, with 7:10 remaining. Amanda Stewart and Jessica Thompson then hit four consecutive free throws between them as Boise State pulled back out to a 12 point lead, 65-53, with 6:13 showing on the clock.

The Golden Eagles then went to their go to player Jennifer Hardin who scored six unanswered points to draw Oral Roberts to within five once again with 4:10 to play. Boise State responded an 8-4 run, five by Jessica Thompson, to end the game and claim their nine point 73-64 victory over Oral Roberts.
