(1/27/10) - In a game of runs, Boise State University’s women’s basketball team staged the one that counted in the final six minutes to storm past Texas A&M-Corpus Christi 77-66 in the first game of the Coors Rocky Mountain Invitational in Fort Collins, Colo., Saturday afternoon. Lauren Lenhardt came alive down the stretch to score eight of the Broncos’ final 16 points to lead Boise State’s game-winning run. The first half was fast paced and a little sloppy as the two teams combined for 28 turnovers, 14 apiece. For Texas A&M-Corpus Christi they scored 27 of their 34 points off Boise State turnovers (15) and second chance points (12) on 11 offensive rebounds. The Islanders held the lead for the first seven minutes and took a six-point, 13-7, lead at the 14:19 mark.
In the first six minutes of the game Boise State struggled, scoring as many points, six, as it had turnovers. However, down six with a little over 14 minutes to go the Broncos rallied with a 17-3 run to take a period-high eight-point lead at 24-16 with seven minutes remaining in the half.
The key to the rally was Boise State going to a full-court press which caused trouble for the Islanders who committed six turnovers during the Broncos’ run.
Unfortunately with seven minutes left the Islanders rallied, out scoring the Broncos 18 to nine to take a one-point 34-33 lead into the break.
Boise State dominated the paint in the first half as they drove into the post out scoring TAMU-CC 16 to eight down low. Boise State shot 52 percent (13-25) from the floor in the first period compared to the Islanders 34 percent (11-32). However, TAMU-CC was solid from beyond the arc hitting 43 percent (6-14), the Broncos were two-of seven.
Down one at half, Boise State opened the second period quickly rolling off a 9-0 run to go up eight points at 42-34. The Broncos stretched the run to 15-4 and a 48-38 lead. Freshman Diana Lee led the charge with six of the points followed by Lauren Lenhardt who added five.

Unfortunately, the long shot was a struggle for the second consecutive game as Boise State converted 20 percent (3-15) from beyond the arc.
