LARAMIE, Wyoming (11/25/08) Boise State lead for the first 33 minutes of the game before Wyoming rallied to catch the Broncos down the stretch pulling out the seven point 62-55 victory Tuesday night in Laramie. After dominating the first period taking a 37-24 lead into the halftime break, Boise State struggled to score in the second 20 minutes as Wyoming outscored the Broncos 38-18. Boise State showed major improvement against Wyoming from Sunday’s loss at Washington, their first game without Harris.

Boise State dominated the first period taking a 15 point lead several times before settling for a 13-point advantage, 37-24, at the half. The Broncos took the Cowgirls out of their game denying open outside shots while holding their own in the post. Senior Brittany Moore sparked the Broncos in the opening 20 minutes with 13 of her career-high 16 points.

Unfortunately, the second half did not go well for Boise State. The Broncos managed to keep the Cowgirls at bay most of the period as Wyoming slowly clawed their way back into the contest.

After Boise State opened the half with a Janie Bos layup to take a 15 point 39-24 lead 30 seconds into the period, they hit a wall scoring making only three more field goals in the game.

Wyoming countered with a 17-3 run over the next eight minutes to pull within one at 42-41 with 11:14 to play. Boise State clung to the lead for the next four and a half minutes before the Cowgirls tied the game at 46 with 6:45 remaining.

The final seven minutes were close until the very end. The contest was a one or two point game down the stretch with four ties and five lead changes. Wyoming seized control of the game for good with 2:11 remaining when Emma Langford hit two free throws to give the Cowgirls a 54-53 lead. They never trailed again as they pulled away in the final minute taking their largest lead of the game with the final seven-point victory margin at the buzzer up 62-55.

Free throws were a decisive factor in this contest favoring Wyoming who outscored Boise State 18-to-nine from the line in the second half. They took 26 free throws compared to Boise State’s 15 in the final 20 minutes.

Brittany Moore led Boise State with a career-high 16 points behind four-of-six shooting from 3-point range to go with one board, three assists and two steals. Marisa Stotler came in off the bench to record nine points and six rebounds, followed by Ja’lara Walker’s eight points and team-high 10 rebounds.

Wyoming was led by two players in double-figure points. Emma Langford scored 21 points to go with eight boards, and six assists, followed by Hillary Carlson with 13 points.

It is the third consecutive loss Boise State who drops to 2-3 overall. They return home for a pair of contests beginning with Utah Valley (1-3) this Saturday night at 6:00 p.m. in the first game of a doubleheader with the men’s team. Wyoming improves to 3-2 with the win.
