Bronco Hoops Signs Three
Nov. 8, 2017
BOISE, Idaho - Boise State women's basketball announced the signings of Rachel Bowers (Newhall, Calif./Canyon HS), Maggie Freeman (Beaverton, Ore./Southridge HS), and Jade Loville (Sammamish, Wash./Skyline HS) to National Letters of Intent Wednesday. The trio will join the Broncos beginning in the 2018-19 academic year.
Bowers is a forward out of Canyon High School in Santa Clarita, Calif., while Freeman, from Southridge High School in Beaverton, Ore., and Loville, out of Skyline High School in Sammamish, Wash., will join the Broncos' guard corps.
"We feel like this is one of the most athletic, highly-ranked groups we've ever brought to Boise State," said Boise State head coach Gordy Presnell. "I'm really proud of our assistant coaches for their hard work and perseverance in getting this trio. We're excited for them to be Broncos."
Bowers, a 6-foot-3 post, is a two-time All-CIF Southern Section standout who has helped Canyon to section title-game appearances and CIF state tournament berths in each of the past two seasons. Last year (2016-17), Bowers averaged 13.0 points and 10.5 rebounds per game as the Cowboys went 22-11, reaching the second round of the CIF Division II state tournament. Bowers was also named the Foothill League co-Player of the Year after helping lead the Cowboys to a share of the league title.
As a sophomore (2015-16), she also averaged a double-double, scoring 11.4 points a game while pulling down 10.2 rebounds per contest in her second year on the varsity. That year, Canyon qualified for the Division III state tournament, reaching the second round and closing the year with a 25-8 record.
She plays her club ball for Cal Stars Valley Elite and head coach Stan Delus.
"Rachel is very mobile, very athletic, and wil fit into our system very well," said Boise State head coach Gordy Presnell. "We're anxious for her to get here and be a Bronco."
Freeman, a 5-foot-11 guard, is entering her second season at Southridge after transferring from North Medford prior to the 2016-17 academic year. In her debut season with Southridge, Freeman was named to the All-Metro League First Team, and helped the Skyhawks to a 26-3 record, a Metro League title (going undefeated at 16-0 in league play), and the Oregon 6A state title, the program's sixth.
Prior to her arrival at Southridge, Freeman played varsity ball at North Medford High School, where she led the team in scoring in each of her two seasons and was named to the All-Southwest Conference First Team in 2015-16. That year, Freeman averaged 16 points a game as the Black Tornado went 17-8 and made an appearance in the 6A state playoffs.
Freeman plays her club ball for the Northwest Stars and coaches Michael Meek and Angie Sun.
"Maggie is a great athlete, and can really shoot," Presnell said. "She's a lefty, and has played and been recruited at a high-level. We're excited for her to be a part of our team."
Loville continues the Sammamish presence on the Boise State roster, joining fellow natives Marijke Vanderschaaf and Ellie Woerner (both of Eastlake High School) on the Broncos next year. The 5-foot-10 guard out of Skyline High had twice been named to the All-KingCo 4A Second Team, as a freshman in 2014-15 and again in 2015-16, before earning her first selection to the First Team after averaging a career-high 21.1 points per game to go with 6.2 rebounds per contest in 2016-17.
Outside of the prep season, Loville plays club ball for Emerald City and head coach Sam Adams.
"Jade is extremely athletic and is very hard to stop going to the rim," Presnell said about Loville. "She should have a really bright, great career here at Boise State."
Boise State opens its 2017-18 season Friday at 5:30 p.m., hosting Northwest Christian at Taco Bell Arena.
