This Week For Boise State . . .

The Broncos open the regular season with a home game Friday night against the UC-Davis Aggies at Taco Bell Arena, tip-off is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. (mt). This will be the lone contest for Boise State on the opening weekend of the 2006-07 campaign. The NCAA moved the start date for the basketball season up by one week making this the earliest start in Boise State women’s basketball history as the Broncos enter their 37th season.

Boise State Enters Week at 1-0 In Exhibition Games . . .

Boise State enters the 2006-07 campaign coming off an exhibition game victory last Sunday in Boise. The Broncos defeated NAIA power Lewis-Clark State, from Lewiston, Idaho, in a dominating performance 79-37. The sophomore tandem of Jessica Thompson and Rebecca Kepilino led the Broncos over the Warriors with 17 and 15 points respectively as Boise State claimed a 42-point victory in their lone exhibition game the year.

After a slow start that saw Boise State up 10-9 seven minutes into the game, the Broncos exploded on a 28-6 run to end the first half. The second half was much of the same as Boise State opened with another run, this time out scoring LCSC 29-4 to open a 67-19 advantage with 10 and half minutes to go in the contest. The Broncos ended the game by out scoring the Warriors 41-to-22 in the final period.

GAME 1: November 10 vs. UC-Davis (1-1 Exhibition) . . .

What’s Happened Lately For UCD: The Aggies enter the season opener coming off a split in two exhibition games. The defeated the Melbourne (Australia) Roos 70-51 on Nov. 11 then lost a hard fought 43-41 game to Sonoma State on Monday (Nov. 6) night in Davis. UC-Davis was led by Heather Bates in the two games with 31 points and 21 rebounds, including a double-double 20 points and 12 rebounds against Melbourne.

About UC-Davis: UC-Davis is in the final year of NCAA Provisional status in moving from Division II to Division I. They currently compete as a independent but will join the Big West Conference next year. Last year they played a full Big West schedule but did not count in the standings. If they did count, the Aggies would have been the Big West regular season co-champions going 11-5 against league members. This year, Davis returns six letterwinners and no starters from last year’s 16-12 squad. Two of last year’s starters are redshirting in 2006-07. Sandy Simpson is in her 10th season as head coach of the Aggies where she has gone 163-87 overall.

The Series’ History: Friday’s game will be the second meeting all-time between these two programs who have not met in 23 years. The last time the Broncos and Aggies confronted each other on the hardwood was on January 2, 1983 in Davis, California. UCD won a tight game 54-53 over the Connie Thorngren coached Broncos.
