Boise State Dominates Lewis-Clark State 79-37 In Women's Hoops Exhibition ?

BOISE, Idaho (11/5/2006) The Boise State women’s basketball dominated Lewis-Clark State, from Lewiston, Idaho, 79-37 in an exhibition game Sunday afternoon at Taco Bell Arena in Boise. The sophomore tandem of Jessica Thompson and Rebecca Kepilino led the Broncos over the Warriors with 17 and 15 points respectively as Boise State claimed a 42-point victory in their lone exhibition game the year.

After a slow start that saw Boise State up 10-9 seven minutes into the game, the Broncos exploded on a 28-6 run to end the first half. After the first seven minutes the Broncos picked up their intensity and never looked back again. Boise State forced 15 Warrior turnovers in the opening period and shot 50 percent from the floor to claim a 38-15 lead at the half.

The second half was much of the same as Boise State opened with another run, this time outscoring LCSC 29-4 to open a 67-19 advantage with 10 and half minutes to go in the contest. The Broncos ended the game by outscoring the Warriors 41-to-22 in the final period.

Overall it was a balanced offensive attack with four Broncos scoring in double-figure points. Joining Jessica Thompson and Kepilino in double-digit points were Jackie Thompson and Nadia Begay each with 10 points. Michelle Hessing added eight points while Jackie Lee had seven. Jenna Galassi led the team on the boards with six rebounds followed by Jackie Thompson and Amanda Stewart with five each.

Highs for LCSC were Jade Fulbright with 15 points and six rebounds and Mandy Troutt with eight points and four rebounds.

The game saw the return of Boise State’s Tasha Harris, who redshirted last year, as she started at the point recording six points, three rebounds, a team high five assists, and two steals in 14 minutes of action. Two other new Broncos saw action on the day as freshmen Bridgette Reyes and Ja'Lara Walker each saw game time.

As a team Boise State shot 53.3 percent (32-of-60) from the floor, 33.3 percent (6-of-18) from three-point range, and 90 percent (9-of-10) from the free throw line. LCSC shot 16.4 percent (10-of-61) from the floor, 10.5 percent (2-of-19) from the three-point arc, and 78.9 percent (15-of-19) from the foul line. Boise State made a living in the paint on the day outscoring the Warriors 36-to-6 down low. LCSC turned the ball over 23 times compared to 15 by Boise State.

The win gives the Broncos a 1-0 exhibition record heading into Friday’s regular season opener at Taco Bell Arena against UC-Davis. The loss dropped Lewis-Clark State, the number 10 ranked NAIA team nationally, to 0-2 in exhibition games following a narrow six-point loss at Washington State on Friday 73-67 in Pullman, Washington.
