BOISE, Idaho (11/4/2007) - It took a while but Boise State shook off the rust and a slow start to rally past NAIA power and #12 ranked Lewis-Clark State 76-62 Sunday afternoon in Boise. The Broncos over came a poor shooting performance in the first half to rally past the Warriors in the second period out scoring LCSC 51-28. Newcomer Jamia Malone led the Broncos with a steady first game scoring a team high 21 points in her Boise State debut. This was the lone exhibition game of the season for the defending Western Athletic Conference champion Boise State women.

Boise State struggled early with Lewis-Clark State as the Warriors ran out to a 14-point lead. LCSC used a 18-1 run to take their largest lead of the game at 14 points with 4:17 remaining in the opening period. The Broncos had trouble getting their shots to fall in the first half as they hit 25.8 percent (8-of-31) from the floor, 28.6 percent (4-of-14) from beyond the arc, and 45.5 percent (5-of-11) from the charity stripe. The Warriors hit an impressive 48.1 percent (13-of-27) from the hardwood, 50 percent (4-of-8) from three-point range, and 66.7 percent (4-of-6) from the foul line.

Down nine points at halftime, the Broncos responded with a 17-7 run in the first five minutes of the second half to take the lead for good at 42-41 on a Amanda Stewart jumper. Boise State then extended the run to 23-7 and the lead to 48-41 by the 12 minute mark. Boise State took their largest lead at 15 points on a pair of Melissa Rima free throws with 6:33 to go and the score 60-45.

Boise State dominated the second period with improve efforts in shooting and on the boards. The Broncos overcame their shooting woes from the first period to hit 45.2 percent (14-of-31) of their shots, 36.4 percent (4-of-11) from behind the arc, and 82.6 percent of their free throws in the second half. In addition, they blew open a close game on the boards at the half, 21-20 in favor of Boise State, into an impressive 15 rebound margin, 48-33, by the end of the game.

LCSC made one final run at the Broncos cutting the Boise State lead to eight twice with the last coming with 3:14 showing on the clock and the score 68-60. However, that was as close as they would get as Boise State pulled at to a 14 point advantage at the buzzer.

Everyone who played for Boise State scored in the contest. Following Malone’s 21 points was Jackie Lee with 13 points and four rebounds, Tasha Harris had 12 points and four rebounds, Jessica Thompson added nine second half points and a team high eight rebounds. Senior center Amanda Stewart tied Thompson on the glass with eight boards and chipped in four points. Rebecca Kepilino scored seven points to go with five rebounds, while Jenna Galassi recorded five points and three boards. Two freshmen got on the scoreboard as well, Melissa Rima scored three points and had four bounds, while Sierra Moeller made two points and grabbed five rebounds.

Lewis-Clark State was led by Mandy Troutt with team highs for points and rebounds with 15 and six respectively, followed by Sadie Short with 13 points and five boards, and Breianna Gaines with 12 points and three rebounds.

Boise State opens the 2007-08 season this Friday when they host Loyola Marymount at 6:00 p.m. in the first game of a double-header with the Bronco men. They women will then host Montana at 2:00 p.m. (Mountain) Sunday afternoon.
