Bos named to preseason All-WAC team.

BOISE, Idaho (10/19/2010) - The Western Athletic Conference released its women’s basketball preseason polls Tuesday morning from Denver, Colo., and Boise State University was picked to place in the middle of the league by both the coaches and media. The coaches predicted the Broncos to place fifth in 2011 while the media selected them fourth. Boise State’s Janie Bos was the only Bronco named to a preseason team making the media’s second team.

Both polls picked Fresno State to repeat as regular-season champions followed by Louisiana Tech and Nevada, respectively. The coaches gave the Bulldogs 63 points and seven first-place votes to beat out Louisiana Tech for the top spot. The Lady Techsters captured second place with 57 points and two first-place votes. Nevada took third place with 50 points, Idaho finished fourth with 41 points, followed by Boise State in fifth place with 30 points. New Mexico State came in at sixth place with 24 points, followed by Hawai‘i in seventh with 23 points. Utah State and San Jose State rounded out the poll with 19 points and 10 points, respectively.

In the media poll, Fresno State received 14 first-place votes, earning 158 points. Louisiana Tech was picked to finish second with 146 points and four first-place votes, followed by Nevada with 117 points. Boise State was picked to finish fourth with 92 points, just ahead of Idaho with 91 points and New Mexico State with 87 points. Utah State was picked to finish in seventh place with 54 points, followed by Hawai’i in eighth with 46 points and San Jose State in ninth with 19 points.

Janie Bos was the only Bronco selected by either poll for preseason honors making the media’s second team. This is the first such honor for the senior from Ontario, Calif. The fifth-year senior is one of two returning starters and the top scorer and rebounder back for Boise State from last year’s 19-12 squad. She averaged 9.2 points and a team-high 7.0 rebounds in 26.3 minutes per game.
