Women's Basketball Hits the Hardwood for Practice
Gordy Presnell enters 9th season at Boise State

BOISE, Idaho - The Boise State women’s basketball team officially began preseason practice in preparation for the 2013-14 season. In all, 14 players reported for the opening day including seven returning veterans and seven newcomers. The blue and orange is scheduled to open the season on Nov. 4 with an exhibition game against Southern Oregon in Taco Bell Arena, followed by the official season opener at home on Nov. 8 against Southern Utah.

This marks the third year in which the NCAA has allowed women’s basketball programs to start practice near the first of October. The team has a 40 day time span in which the team can practice on 30 of those days.

Boise State returns seven letterwinners led by the Mountain West Newcomer of the Year junior Brandi Henton (5-9, guard). Joining Henton are seniors Kinzi Poteet (6-1, forward) and Diana Lee (5-7, guard), as well as four  sophomores Lexie Der (6-1, forward), Keiahnna Engel (5-7, guard), Miquelle Askew (6-3, center) and Kayla Reinhart (5-10 guard/forward).

The Broncos added seven newcomers to the roster led by University of Oregon transfer junior Deanna Weaver. The other six include one junior college transfer and five true freshmen. Four of the freshmen signed with the Broncos last year and included Tonishia Childress (5-5, guard), Kenna McDavis (6-1, guard/forward), Brittney Pahukoa (5-7, guard) and Brooke Pahukoa (5-9, guard).

Joining that group of newcomers are two recent additions to the roster in Yaiza Rodriguez Ortego a 5-5 true freshman from Spain who plays guard and 5-5 junior guard Hailey Laird  a transfer from Southwestern Oregon Community College and a native of Parma, Idaho.
