BOISE, Idaho - (8/22/07) - Boise State released the 2007-08 women’s basketball schedule this afternoon which features one of the hardest lineups in recent years. This season’s schedule consists of 13 home games and 15 on the road. The opposition includes five teams that played in the postseason last year and three Pacific-10 schools. The five teams who competed in the postseason last year are NCAA Tournament participants Oral Roberts, Washington, and Idaho State, the other two played in the WNIT and include Montana and WAC rival Nevada.
The Broncos open the season with an exhibition game against NAIA power Lewis-Clark State of Lewiston, Idaho. The game will tip at 1:00 p.m. on Nov. 4 and is the first contest of a double-header with the men’s team which host Montana-Western at approximately 3:00 p.m. that afternoon.
The regular season will kick into gear on Nov. 9 when Boise State host Loyola Marymount, the first of four potential West Coast Conference teams on the schedule, at 6:00 p.m. as part of another double-header with the Bronco men. The opening weekend will conclude on Sunday, Nov. 11 when the Montana Lady Grizz (Big Sky Conference) come to town for a 2:00 p.m. tip-off in Taco Bell Arena.
The month of November will finish with a road game at Santa Clara (West Coast Conference) on Nov.17th, a tournament Nov. 23-24 at Saint Mary’s (West Coast Conference) where the Broncos will face Cal State Bakersfield (Independent) in the opening round and then either the host Gaels or Yale of the Ivy League. The final contest in November will be at the University of Portland (West Coast Conference) on the 30th.
A challenging December will begin with two home games against 2007 NCAA Tournament participants in Oral Roberts, the defending Summit League champions, on the 3rd and the PAC-10's Washington Huskies on the 7th. The Washington match-up will start a string of three straight contests against the Pacific-10 Conference as the Broncos head to Washington State for a Dec. 9th meeting with the Cougars, followed by a trip to Tucson, Arizona to face the University of Arizona Wildcats on Dec. 12. It will be the first time in program history that Boise State has played Arizona in women’s hoops.
December wraps up with games against two Big Sky Conference schools. Boise State will host Sacramento State on Dec. 15 followed by the annual rivalry game with Idaho State on the 29th in Pocatello. The Bengals are the defending Big Sky Conference Tournament champions and 2007 NCAA Tournament participants.
The new year will see the Broncos start defense of their 2007 WAC championship with three straight on the road. Once again it is expected to be another wide open race for the conference title which begins at Fresno State (Jan. 5), New Mexico State (Jan. 10), and Louisiana Tech (Jan. 12). League home games include Utah State (Jan. 17), Nevada (Jan. 19), Fresno State (Jan. 28), Louisiana Tech (Feb. 7), New Mexico State (Feb. 9), Idaho (Feb. 21), San Jose State (Feb. 28) and Hawaii (March 1). The double-round robin format concludes on March 6th when the Broncos travel to Utah State to conclude the regular season.
The 2008 Western Athletic Conference Tournament will be held once again in Las Cruces, New Mexico at the Pan American Center March 11-15.
