BOISE, Idaho — Boise State announced today the 2014-15 women’s basketball schedule which includes 28 games and 14 home contests. The schedule is highlighted by a trip to the Great Alaska Shootout over Thanksgiving week and an 18-game Mountain West Conference slate.
The MW office released the league portion of the schedule on Tuesday. The conference has kept its 18-game conference schedule with each team playing eight members twice in a round robin and the other two teams once. The Broncos’ two single-game conference opponents are Wyoming who will come to Boise, while the Broncos will travel to Reno to play the Nevada Wolf Pack.
Home non-conference opponents of note include Montana State on Nov. 14, coached by Boise State alum Tricia Bader Binford, former WAC rival New Mexico State Nov. 18 and Portland on Dec. 21.
Key non-conference road games include the Great Alaska Shootout in Anchorage, Alaska, Nov. 25-26 where they will open the tournament against the Long Beach State 49ers, then play either Alaska-Anchorage or Yale. This will be a homecoming of sort for Boise State junior Keiahnna Engel who is from Anchorage. The Broncos will also find themselves on the road to instate-rival Idaho State on Dec. 4 in the first game of a two-game road trip which includes Utah Valley on Dec. 6.
Boise State will open the conference schedule at home against defending regular season champion Colorado State on Wednesday, Dec. 31, followed by a trip to Utah State on Saturday, Jan. 3, to wrap-up the opening weekend of MW play.
The Broncos’ bye dates are Jan. 7 (Wednesday) and Jan. 31 (Saturday). Boise State will close the campaign with four of the final seven games at home before closing the regular season on the road at rival and two-time defending Reese’s MW Tournament champion Fresno State on March 6 (Friday).
The Reese’s Mountain West Basketball Championships are returning to the Thomas & Mack Center in Las Vegas. The women’s tournament will run March 9-13. There has been a slight modification to the format with the first round taking place on Monday and the quarterfinals on Tuesday. The change in the format comes with the semifinals being moved to Wednesday and the championship game to Friday afternoon.
