BOISE, Idaho - Boise State incoming freshman Sofia Galeron continues her summer of international hoops as she was named this week to Spain's pool of 16 players who will compete for spots on the country's U18 European Championships National Team.

The FIBA U18 Women's European Championship is scheduled for August 5-13 in Sopron, Hungary.

Should Galerón make the final 12-woman roster for the event, it would be her second FIBA competition of the summer with Spain. A week ago, she played for the U18 3x3 National Team at the FIBA 3x3 U18 World Cup, helping the Spanish squad top Pool D with a 4-0 mark before falling in the quarterfinals, 14-13, to Hungary.

The U18 team will play a warm-up tournament in Logroño, Spain, from July 21-23, facing Belgium, Turkey and Russia.

Galerón has been an impact player and starter for multiple Spanish youth teams in the past. She helped Spain to a 7-0 mark at the FIBA 3x3 U18 European Championship Qualifiers last July 16-17 in Riga, Latvia, and was part of both Spain's 2016 FIBA U17 World Championship and 2015 FIBA U16 European Championship teams, helping the teams to finishes of sixth and fourth, respectively.

In seven contests at the 2016 FIBA World Championship, Galerón led the team in both scoring (13.0 ppg) and rebounding (8.0 rpg), good for seventh and 12th, respectively, among all players in the tournament. She shot a team-high 52.2 percent (35-for-67) from the floor, good for second overall at the tournament. Galerón also shot 46.2 percent (6-for-13) from 3-point range and 62.5 percent (15-for-24) from the free-throw line. She added four assists, four blocks and six steals over 26.4 minutes per game.

In nine games at the 2015 Euros, Galerón led the team in rebounding and ranked 17th overall at the tournament with 6.0 per game, and ranked second in scoring with 8.8 points per game. She shot 51.5 percent (35-for-68) from the floor and 69.2 percent (9-for-13) from the free-throw line. She also dished out nine assists with three blocks and 11 steals over 26 minutes per game.

She is one of two Boise State players who have and will represent Spain on the international stage this summer, joining rising junior Marta Hermida, who was named to Spain's U20 European Championships National Team July 4. Hermida and Spain will begin play at the FIBA U20 Women's European Championship Saturday against Poland in Matosinhos, Portugal.
