BOISE, Idaho - Boise State women's basketball rising junior Marta Hermida was named to Spain's U20 Women's European Championship National Team, Baloncesto FEB (Spain's national basketball governing body) announced Tuesday. It will mark Hermida's debut for Spain at a major FIBA event.

The FIBA U20 European Championship is scheduled for July 8-16 in Matosinhos, Portugal. Spain, the two-time defending champion and winners of six titles overall including five of the last six, will play in Group A at the 16-team event. Hermida and the Spanish squad will play three group games from July 8-10, opening with Poland (July 8, 1:45 p.m. MT) followed by Sweden (July 9, 9:15 a.m. MT) and closing with Belgium (July 10, 9:15 a.m. MT).

Spain has thus far announced seven of the 12 members of the European Championship squad, with Hermida being one of three current NCAA standouts on the roster. She is joined on the Spanish U20 team by Florida State's María Conde and Oregon's Maite Cazorla.

Hermida has spent the past two weekends in action with the Spanish team, helping the U20s to a 5-1 mark over a pair of friendly events in Bourg-en-Bresse, France and Valladolid, Spain. In France from June 23-25, Hermida averaged 4.3 points, 3.7 rebounds and 1.6 assists as Spain picked up wins over Portugal and host France. This past weekend in Valladolid, Hermida appeared in wins over Russia and France, getting the start against the Russians Saturday and grabbing a pair of rebounds.

Hermida, the 2016 Mountain West Freshman of the Year and a member of that season's Mountain West All-Freshman Team, started 32 of 33 contests in 2016-17, averaging 8.5 points, 4.0 rebounds and 1.82 assists per game as Boise State captured the Mountain West Tournament title and reached the NCAA Tournament for the second time in three years. Over two seasons in Boise, Hermida has appeared in 63 games, with 62 starts, averaging 8.9 points over 27.7 minutes per game as Boise State has racked up a record of 44-19.

The Madrid native and engineering major is one of two Broncos competing internationally for Spain this summer. Incoming freshman Sofía Galerón competed at the FIBA 3x3 U18 World Cup last week, helping the Spanish team top Pool D with a 4-0 mark, including a victory over defending champion France, before falling in the quarterfinals to Hungary.
