BOISE, Idaho (6/4/2015) - Boise State's Yaiza Rodriguez Ortego and Marta Hermida have made the Spanish Women's Basketball Junior National Team pool in preparation for this summer's European Championships. Rodriguez Ortego has made the U20 team that will represent Spain in a series of competitions culminating with the European Championship in Lanzarote, Spain, July 2-12. Meanwhile, incoming freshman Marta Hermida has been invited to training camp to tryout for the Spanish U18 squad.

Rodriguez Ortego has been a staple member of Spain's national team youth program for years. The Spanish U20 team will begin its summer competing in two warm-up competitions starting with a tournament at Istanbul, Turkey, June 19-21, then follow with a tournament at Lanzarote, Spain, June 27-29. The summer will conclude for Rodriguez Ortego at the European Championship which will also be held in Lanzarote July 2-12.

This year's U20 team marks the seventh-consecutive year that Rodriguez Ortego has represented her nation in international tournaments. The junior-to-be at Boise State has played for Spain's U14, U15, U16, U17, U18, U19 and U20 squads. This year is the second-consecutive summer for her on the U20 team which placed second at last summer's European Championship in Udine, Italy. During her run with the national team program she has won two gold medals and two silver medals, including a silver medal at the U20 European Championships last summer where she hit a shot at the buzzer to take France to overtime in the gold medal championship game.

Rodriguez Ortego just completed her sophomore season at Boise State helping lead the Broncos to a 22-11 record, the Mountain West Tournament Championship and a berth into the NCAA National Championship tournament. She played an instrumental role in the Broncos' Mountain West title run and was named to the all-tournament team for her performance.

Incoming Boise State freshman Marta Hermida is one of 16 players invited to training camp to tryout for the Spanish U18 National Team that will compete for the European Championship July 30 - August 9 at Celje, Slovenia. Camp for the U18 team is a week long from July 12-19 in her hometown of Madrid. If Marta makes the team it will be her first trip to the European Championship. The Spanish U18 team is comprised primarily of the players that took the U.S. down to the wire in the gold medal game at the U17 World Championships last year in the Czech Republic before being defeated 77-75.
