BOISE, Idaho - Gordy Presnell, Boise State’s head women’s basketball coach, announced today the signing of Tonishia Childress (Las Vegas, Nev.) to a National Letter of Intent. Childress was a standout at Las Vegas’ Bishop Gorman High School where the 5-5 point guard had an outstanding senior season being named the Nevada 4A State Player of the Year. She is the fourth high school senior to sign with the Broncos for next season.

“Tonishia is a proven leader for a very successful high school program,” said Presnell. “She brings quickness and aggressiveness to our guard line-up. We expect her to impact our team on both sides of the  floor.”

Childress was a three-year starter at point guard for Bishop Gorman High where she averaged 11 points, four rebounds, seven assists and three steals per game as a senior this past winter. As a four-year member of the varsity team at BGHS she helped guide the Gaels to four consecutive league championships, the state title as a freshman and a runner-up finish this season. Childress was honorable mention all-league as a junior. As a senior in 2012-13 her honors include: Nevada State 4A Player of the Year, first-team all-state, Southwest Region MVP, Sunset League MVP and first-team all-conference, as well as team captain. Her high school coach was Sheryl Kimpotich. Childress also played AAU basketball for Las Vegas Elite from 2008-12 under the direction of Brian Sitter.
